yugiohnerd Asked: Should I learn piano or guitar?

I sing and I wanna pick up an instrument so I can accompany myself. Right now I was thinking I should take up piano but there's only so much you can do with chords and I have had no professional training at all so I can't read sheet music, and I have very little knowledge in music theory. The reason I didn't originally decide to play guitar is that too many guys are accompanying themselves with it when they sing and I guess I wanted to be different. And now I don't know whether to continue piano or change to guitar. Which do you think a beginner should start with? And if you wouldn't mind, could you list the pros or cons of each. Thanks

Internet Guitar Lessons | Guitar Lessons Online

You’d like to take internet guitar lessons or learn guitar riffs but you don’t know where to find proper instruction. Obviously you can browse through the Yellow Pages and find a local instructor but for practical purposes we are going to exclude that from the options because it is usually expensive for each lesson ($30 for 1/2 hour) and there’s always the scheduling constraints.

The first sites people visit when doing research are Wikipedia (which doesn’t really apply for “guitar training”) and Youtube. Youtube can be an excellent place to find all kinds of internet guitar lessons but while the person playing might be an incredible guitar player they may not be the best teacher. Many of the instructors assume that the person doing the research already knows a slew of chords and proper fingering. With all that said, it is possible to wade through some trashy videos and find some real gems.

Another option to learn guitar riffs is a paid service at www.guitar-leads.com. This is online guitar course to learn riffs, leads, and licks. One of the great things about this course is that you can sign up for free and receive 47 riffs. One thing to keep in mind is that the riffs are in tab form so knowing how to read guitar tab is essential but if you pay for the course you will receive the several bonuses including Tony’s Fundamentals Guitar Course and a complete “How to” Read Guitar Tabs Guide.

One more huge advantage of Guitar Leads is the library which includes hundreds of guitar riffs and licks for bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and AC/DC. Another plus is the ability to slow down the riffs playback speed so you can hear each note as it’s being played. All-in-all the guys at Guitar Leads provide a pretty decent course but keep in mind that it isn’t free and it does require work for the aspiring guitarist.

The course I’d really recommend is internet guitar lessons is Jamorama. Jamorama is a complete instruction course for only $50. You can watch chords and fingering at different angles and at different speeds. They cover every aspect of learning guitar from hand strength exercises to purchasing a guitar below dealer cost. As always they offer some terrific bonuses. One thing to keep in mind… Jamorama offers a hardcopy, which I’d avoid because it’s relatively expensive, but for those that want the convenience it might be worth the money.

You can check out my in-depth Jamorama review here.

Once(if) you know how to play guitar tab you can head over to Music Notes. Here you can browse through 1000′s of guitar tab sheet music. The awesome thing about this site is that you can usually see the entire first page as a preview. So, if you’re already “tab savvy” go checkout the music selection.

7 Tips for Choosing Internet Guitar Lessons.

Numerous internet guitar lessons are springing up all over the place or at least it seems that way. Practically everybody states to be a professional or skilled trainer until you enlist in that very first lesson that leaves the taste of sour grapes in your mouth. A majority of these classes are terrible and explain little if anything at all. As a result it’s difficult to weed out the exceptional internet guitar lessons from the remainder of the trash being offered.

It’s generally disheartening to save some money for any hobby and discover that it was either a rip-off or the information was more or less worthless. Though, there are some fantastic sites for internet guitar lessons you need to use these 7 factors to make identifying them much more simple. Hopefully after comprehending this article you’ll find a great teacher and be well on your way to enjoying one of the most versatile instruments ever invented.

Here’s the list from 1-7

1. Make sure a refund period is available following purchase. Just due to the fact the courses seem very exciting does not imply that they are an exact fit to what you want to achieve using your guitar. Be totally certain that you have the option to receive your money back just in case something doesn’t suit your requirements. As with all garbageproducts, internet guitar lessons not worth their salt will not provide a refund.

2. The content provided is clear and complete. As opposed to poorly written classes, correctly thought out guitar programs include a terrific deal of detail and are quite painless to comprehend. If you are looking to find out about chords, riffs, tab, notation, or neat tricks and the details do not appear easy, it almost certainly won’t be that valuable. Keep in mind, sometimes a excellent guitar player, with all of the qualifications in the world, does not automatically make someone as a terrific instructor.

3. Testimonials are provided. It’s essential to hear what actual students or buyers of the particular products are stating before you spend any cash. That’s what testimonies are for. Scan a considerable number of quotes and go through some comments consequently you know what should be offered for internet guitar lessons.

4. Number 4 goes hand in hand with number 3. Browse the online forums. Occasionally websites provide fictional testimonials but it is far more difficult to sit around typing phony claims in guitar forums. Once someone does this it is simple to identify as spam because the other forum members may point it out.

5. It’s vital to be sure that a contact is available for help or inquiries. Excellent online guitar lessons generally have support if something within the study course isn’t so great. What advantage would internet guitar lessons be if you could not gain access to the modules because there is a bug within the software? Any professional establishment would be glad to offer help to it’s loyal paying customers.

6. It is advisable to be certain that that the course you are signing up for is aimed at your current skill level. It can be a shame to sign up for lead guitar lessons when you do not even know how to read guitar tab. Many people won’t have the same period of time to commit to practice. It is vital for you to select a course that lets the guitarist study at their own pace. You could possibly progress faster or slower than some guitar training course can present the material.

7. It’s very important that you don’t feel pressured to purchase additional classes or products when you simply are not prepared for them. Most internet guitar lessons will have different packages available for purchase to match the requirements of the consumer. Please don’t feel rushed into purchasing additional material if you aren’t ready. If you aren’t planning to commit to the course it will perhaps be better to buy a book online.

=====> Sign up for the most popular internet guitar lessons here!.

This is a full detailed Jamorama review to help you decide if this is the right training course to help you improve your guitar playing skills. I will break down the pro’s and con’s of the Jamorama guitar training program including all of the features and benefits that make internet guitar lessons valuable.

Why would someone want to take online guitar lessons? For one, it’s more practical and much cheaper than searching for a one-on-one instructor. Great guitar instructors charge up to $50 for a half hour of lessons and that’s not including the cost of transportation. There is no gas involved, and no expectations to meet. That’s the biggest reason people take internet guitar lessons. When you have a professional trying to teach you how to play guitar it’s expected that you learn at a certain pace but when you have all of the information at your disposal you can learn at your own pace and from the comfort of your own home.

====> Click here to sign up for Jamorama now <====

Now let’s get on with the Jamorama review.

Jamorama is the number one selling internet guitar training course on clickbank.com. That says a lot since there are over 40 different products in this category. The Jamorama guitar course covers everything from beginning guitar to the advanced level. The pros at jamorama.com offer different packages including 6 free guitar lesson to a complete set of hard copy products.

When you sign up you receive

2 ebooks

140+videos

Metronome

Jayde Music Pro (a software game for learning to read music)

Guitarearit – a software program for transforming your “tin ear”

1000′s of guitar tab lines

26 jam tracks

Let’s start off with the con’s in this Jamorama review. While taking guitar lessons on the internet might sound like an excellent idea, some people just aren’t “computer and internet savvy”. Jamorama does offer a hard copy version of their training system, it’s quite expensive compared to the online training course. Jamorama really lacks in the guitar theory department. While quickly propelling students by teaching great tips for learning guitar tab and chords if your future dreams are composing music you might want to look elsewhere. The videos are high quality so you might need a good amount of cpu space to download all of the videos.

Now for the pro’s. If you’re not going to need the hard copy version of the course Jamorama is extremely cheap for only $50 you get everything from beginner to advanced lessons. Even the hard copy version, coming in at $299, is the equivalent of two months of personal training. All of the videos are very high quality, for example, there is no squinting to see if the index finger is on the 3rd fret or the 4th fret. Doing this Jamorama review I discovered that the company actually won the following awards ‘Canterbury Champion Award for Small Business Excellence’ in 2007, and the ‘ANZ Award for Creative Initiative’. The guitar instructors are great. Everything they present is easily understandable, the speech is clear and not rushed. You can tell these people really want you to learn and benefit from the course.

On the fence about Jamorama? Sign up here for the 6 free lessons, and a 76 pg. chord book!

The pentatonic scale consists of only five notes making it much easier to understand than the majority of other guitar scales. With fewer notes, playing the guitar really becomes versatile making it an essential element of several various music styles like rock, blues, and folk. It is the main scale of choice in blues, rock, and country music soloing. Mastering the major pentatonic scale will make it possible for students to understand how modern day music is created and even to make an attempt at song writing.

There are actually major and minor pentatonic scales. A scale is a series of notes consisting of different intervals within an octave. The major and minor pentatonic scale share identical patterns. The common pentatonic major and minor scales (C-D-E-G-A and C-Eb-F-G-Bb,) are helpful in creating guitar solos. The pentatonic scale could be built if you take any five adjacent notes from the circle of fifths and arranging them into a scale sequence.

The major pentatonic scale is comprised of five notes. It’s a major scale, and it’s notes are based on the complete major scale. To get a major pentatonic scale, we leave out the 4th and 7th tones. The major scale is just the same pentatonic minor scale pattern except that you now begin at what is now the 2nd position or note of the minor scale. When you play the notes of the pentatonic scale it seems as if there’s no tonic note, or route note since the scale just sort of rambles up and down never appearing to go anywhere. Practice a scale pattern until you familiarize yourself with all of the sounds in it, so you’re able to move to whichever tone you desire immediately. When you join the Guitar Scale Mastery program, you’ll be taught a number of the quickest, most enjoyable and most effective methods to learn them.

Most beginning guitar players start with a rather inexpensive instrument. They usually have a mass production clone of a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul. The most popular clones are made overseas by Gibson and Fender themselves through the Epiphone. I’ll be the first to admit that more expensive guitars are not always better but string selection is crucial if you’d like to learn guitar riffs or play lead guitar.

If you’d like to learn some of the best guitar riffs there are several different string attributes to consider. While round wound strings are easier to grip, my preference is either half wound or flat wound strings. Both half and flat cut down on excess noise significantly. Strings can be purchased in a variety of gauge sizes (thickness). Having a fuller sound, heavy gauges (the higher the number), are thicker and more difficult to manipulate making them much more suitable for rhythm guitar. With thin strings (.008-.009 range) it’s much easier to fly through a difficult section of a song with less stress on the hand muscles. Now, thinner strings usually need to be tuned more often but it’s a small price to pay if it makes playing your favorite lead guitar riffs a lot easier.

When you’re just starting out on electric guitar, learning easy guitar riffs are a great way to not only keep yourself motivated by learning to play some great guitar licks but will also provide the stepping stones necessary in order to progress onto harder things.

You may be surprised at just how easy some very famous riffs are to play. The thing is that they often sound so impressive because of how they are recorded and mastered in the studio.

Click here to check out the ONLY training course for LEAD GUITAR!

One thing is for sure in popular music, simplicity is king. Some of the greatest rock riffs are also some of the most basic and simple… when things are simple they are easier to remember and so more likely to be remembered and evolve into memorable hits. Just because something is easy to play does not mean it was easy to write however, far from it. The ability to write riffs which are simple but great is rare and a difficult thing to do.

You’ll find lists of easy guitar riffs by doing a search online in one of the search engines or on You Tube. Just keep in mind however that what one guitar player may regard as easy may not feel so easy to you! Use your own personal judgement when it comes to deciding what you’d like to learn and avoid killing yourself trying to learn riffs which are simply too hard for you at the moment. Build up to those things gradually through learning easier ones first.

It’s also a good idea to search for backing tracks to easy riffs on guitar so you can have the full effect of playing them with a band behind you. Many of them are free to download in MP3 and you can build up an entire collection of riffs you can play to impress all your friends.

For all of you up and coming guitar heroes out there, I have put together a couple of easy guitar solos and riffs for you to try out.

One of the most frustrating things when starting to learn how to play guitar is trying to learn a solo, riff or even a whole song that you’re not ready for. What ends up happening is your confidence starts to fade and before you know it you stop playing altogether.

The trick is to start off with easy songs or solos and practice them until you know them inside and out. Once you know a few of the easier ones, then you can challenge yourself and try something a little harder. Oh and make sure you don’t just learn solos and riffs only. Take the time to learn whole songs from beginning to end. You don’t want one of your friends to ask you to play them something and all you can perform for them are a solo from this song and a riff from that song.

Here are a couple of fairly easy ones to get you started.

Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses

If you are a complete beginner and have never played a solo before, you may find it a little tricky at first because of the string skipping. The secret is to grab your metronome and set it at a slower tempo than the 120 beats per minute that the original recording is in. Practice at this slow tempo until you get it down and then gradually speed it up. If you are still having trouble at a slower speed, slow it down some more. I know you want to play it at full speed as soon as possible but if you don’t get it perfect at the slow tempo, you definitely won’t get it at the faster tempo.

Each note that you play is an eighth note. This just means that each note gets half of a beat on your metronome.

Here’s the riff:
